I think it's fair enough. Besides, it's not for a lifetime. It's just for the first 6 weeks.

This just seems wrong to me. Imagine negotiating for your salary at a new job, and having them ask about your marriage and family status because they will be basing your salary on that. This is pretty much the same thing, but time-shifted until after someone is hired. In this case it's directly tying a bonus to people of a certain sex and family status. How would it be seen if it were for men getting married?

Honestly, these two articles are so intertwined - they both resonate. And fairly violently.
I am one who makes it a rule to leave at 5:30, too. I do that so I can become the chauffeur for my children's activities. My bosses find my need to leave on time irritating, though they'd never say so as that would not be family-friendly.
Interestingly, my husband does the same thing - leaves "early" so he can coach and chauffeur.
Cooking has become a speed sport - I scour Cooking Light for the 20 minute dinners because MY waistline grew last football season from too many trips to Wendy's.
We are really efficient folks and we work hard to plan such that we don't have to stress out. It gets silly sometimes, though and I think these two articles really highlight the "not enough hours in the day" issue that American families are facing.

For me, it's important to remember that tiny setbacks don't mean failure. My instinct when a tiny problem surfaces is to panic, so I try to remember that no endeavor is problem-free.

I was laid off a few years ago. After shedding some tears, I took advantage of my new free time: laid out on the beach, visited family, reorganized and labeled my kitchen pantry. Then I found out my dream job was available. I never would have pursued it had I been in my old position. And I got it!
